Hey there,
My name is Meredith Magder. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist living and working in Washington state. I describe myself as a relational therapist who strives toward cultural humility when working with clients and integrates a variety of interventions curated to focus on my client’s specific needs. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of change and that it is important to create a safe and nonjudgmental space for the people I work with. I do this by inviting you to share your past and current experiences as well as understanding your cultural identity to strengthen our work together to untangle life’s challenges. I also recognize my own privilege as a cis gender white woman and how it can impact my work with clients. I view my therapeutic relationships as you are the expert on yourself and I am a person to lean on and offer skills and alternative perspectives that can help make a shift toward change along the way.
I am trained in a number evidenced-based interventions like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you recognize the connection between your thoughts, your feelings, and your actions and how that plays a role in how you can show up in the world. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) which can help you build skills to manage emotions and relationships. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) to overcome past memories and negative self attributes that cause current suffering. Gottman Method Couples therapy levels 1 & 2 to help create healthier communication and mutual respect in relationships. I also teach clients Mindfulness skills to help focus on the present and let go of the worries from the past and the future. My work is informed by Attachment theory, Somatic approaches, and Compassionate Self-talk and trauma informed care.
I have experience working with issues including Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar, PTSD/trauma, healing from past relationships, Psychosis, Anger management, ADHD, life transitions, and gender affirming counseling.
My past clinical experiences include serving minorities and marginalized communities, crisis intervention services, and private group practice. I have a strong belief in social justice and that everyone’s stories deserve to be heard. I come from a family of trans-generational trauma from the past World Wars.
I love to travel and learn about different cultures and traditions. This love and curiosity of having new experiences brought me to Seattle over 30 years ago from the East coast. Prior to becoming a mental health professional I worked as a sous chef in restaurants while attending college earning an undergraduate degree in Graphic design. By the end of college I transitioned into picture framing and was employed for over two decades in this field.
In my spare time I enjoy indoor plant collecting, outdoor gardening, knitting, beading, painting, enjoying music, art, cooking, and traveling.
